I had another great week! I continued teaching grammar this week, but also took on general science. I teach science to both third grade classes, which is actually very nice! I teach one class, and then get a chance to fix any kinks in my lesson as I teach the second class. It’s crazy because I went from teaching 2 lessons last week to teaching 8 lessons this week, but I love it! I really like that it offers me the opportunity to be critical when evaluating my lessons; however, I am also able to apply my critiques when teaching my lesson the second time. The other third grade class was extremely excited that after three weeks, I was finally able to teach them! I think one of the students was confused about my role in the classroom, though, because he asked my cooperating teacher why I am doing all of the work for her. We got quite a laugh out of that! After school on Thursday, all of the teachers had a workshop about using PowerPoint. I know quite a bit about PowerPoint so, although I didn't learn anything, it was exciting to attend the workshop with the teachers! I ended up walking home from school at around 5:45, which meant I was able to catch the sunset on my walk home. The beauty on this island never ceases to amaze me! |
For some reason, Brittney and I were absolutely exhausted on Friday night. She actually ended up falling asleep at 9 pm. It’s a good thing we relaxed on Friday, because Saturday was a huge adventure! Saturday was my favorite day on the island so far. Brittney and I went to Pigeon Point and hiked to the Fort. I will admit, we were sweating and out of breath by the time we made it to the top, but it was so worth it. IT WAS AMAZING! The pictures I have could never do it justice, and I had an impossible time deciding which ones to include on my blog. Enjoy the pictures below! Saturday evening we went to a birthday party for one of my students. We felt a little out of place, but my student’s mom was very grateful I came! |
Every Sunday has been the same so far, and I love it! Brittney and I found another new beach that is closer to my house. We spent the entire afternoon there. Despite a few short rain showers, we had such beautiful weather! This was the first beach we found that wasn't swimming (no pun intended) with tourists, which was pretty exciting. We talked to a really nice local, but he was so confused when I told him I don't swim in salt water at home. I had to explain where Wisconsin is located in the US and that we have other bodies of water. We have met so many wonderful people here, everyone is always making sure Brittney and I are enjoying our time on the island!
As usual, we finished our Sunday with ice cream at the marina. My host mom teasingly asks us each weekend if we will get ice cream again. Even though it might be a bit excessive to spend money on it every weekend (who am I kidding...the ice cream is WAY worth it!), it has become part of our routine, and I look forward to it every week!

My time here is flying by! Although I miss people and certain things from home, I am nowhere near ready to leave this place. I thank God every day for giving me this amazing opportunity, because it truly is a blessing. The first few days were so difficult, but He has shown me that I truly am meant to be here.
I miss my family and friends so much, but I am incredibly grateful for their unending support and encouragement through this journey!
